Before and After Orthodontic Treatment
CROWDING OF THE TEETH
The patient had their braces placed at age 11. Treatment lasted 26 months.
OPEN BITE - FRONT TEETH DON'T TOUCH
Due to thumb sucking as a child, this patient had significant issues that needed to be corrected. Treatment began at age 13 and lasted 28 months. Both braces and a crib were used.
DEEP OVERBITE - LOWER FRONT TEETH BITE INTO PALATE
This patient began treatment as an adult, at age 25. Braces and jaw surgery were needed, with treatment lasting over two years.
MISSING LATERAL INCISORS
Born without lateral incisors, this patient needed 20 months of treatment to move the teeth to their ideal positions. After, we filled in the missing teeth with bonded “Maryland” bridges.
UNDERBITE - LOWER FRONT TEETH IN FRONT OF UPPER TEETH
Due to an underbite causing TMJ pain and poor wearing of the teeth, this patient began treatment at the age of 32. Treatment lasted 30 months.
SPACING OF TEETH
This patient disliked the spaces between their teeth. Braces were used to eliminate the gaps and fixed retainers keep them in place. Active treatment lasted 24 months.
OVERJET - PROTRUDING FRONT TEETH
An overjet caused this patient significant problems. At ten, they began treatment, which was divided into two phases. By 13, they had a healthy and attractive smile.
This patient did not require braces. Instead, a procedure was used to reduce the width of adjacent baby teeth and the rest of the teeth adjusted to create a healthy smile.
As a young child, this patient had severe problems that, if left uncorrected, would require surgery as an adult. We used 12 months of treatment to get the teeth into position so that another phase of treatment would eventually perfect their bite.
